Brickell City Centre reports strong retail leasing
The majority of the retail space at Brickell City Centre is already spoken for a full year before the massive urban mall is set to open.
Swire Properties’ retail executive Debora Overholt said 450,000 square foot of the 500,000 square feet of retail is in advanced negotiations and they plan to make announcements soon. The developer already announced that Saks Fifth Avenue will occupy 180,000 square feet and luxury theater Cinemex will also be there.
Overholt said the first floor would have luxury retail and command the highest rents. The middle market retailers would be on the secondfloor. Between 70,000 and 100,000 square feet of the retail space would be for food and beverage, everything from fine dining to fast food, mostly on the third floor, she said.
The retail portion of Brickell City Centre is expected to open in September 2016, although the condo, office and hotel components should open sooner. The developer recently got FAA approval for an 80-story, 1,049-foot tower for the second phase of its project, which would be on the east side closer to Brickell Avenue. Overholt said it would have a hotel and about 60,000 square feet of additional retail.
